I have a 350GB hard drive but I can only format half of it I put it in an enclosure but still can't format it.

please let me know what to do I tought my computer was to old but my friend have a new pc with also a 350GB I put it in there tried to format it with XP CD it not working I bought new I Have the software and the right cables it's a IDE hard drive.
