Anybody Have Problems with Mice eating Melon sitting out?

I recently bought a 3 pack of cantaloupe and needed to let them sit out on the counter to ripen a little more and I had mice that ate holes in them. I know it was mice as there were mouse droppings next to the melon. I have had mice problems before and they usually get into bread, but these mice avoided the bread and went for the cantaloupe. I have never seen this before. Anybody ever seen this before
