How has the media (film, TV, novels, music, etc) affected your view on romantic relationships?
Do you feel as though romantic books, comedies, dramas, etc. have given you an unrealistic view of what love and romance are supposed to be? Has this ever hindered you in your romantic endeavors? What, if any, specific examples can you come up with of unrealistic relationship portrayals in the media? I ask because of all the Twilight questions that have popped up lately and also because of an article I saw online about how romantic comedies have skewed people's views on what a relationship is supposed to be. When I think back, I feel as though many of my expectations for what love and a relationship were supposed to be like were based off of what I read in books or saw on TV (I was a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan in high school). I realize now that for a long time I was disappointed with actual love because it wasn't like what I had expected it to be. It took me awhile to realize that things can't be pionate all of the time and that sometimes being in love/loving someone feels very platonic.
