I'm pretty naive in this area. Can I even file for taxes this year....?

Everyone can file. There is no one in the world who cannot file. The only thing that affects whether you can file is your species. If you are a person (a human or a corporation), you can file. If you are not a person, then you cannot file. It is really that simple.
